Emails act as a double-edged sword at work with the ability to both increase and decrease productivity. Too much email can distract you from completing your work. When you are consistently checking your inbox and providing quick replies, you may find it difficult to focus on and complete other tasks. With your inbox so often pulling your attention away from other projects, it forces you to consistently shift your attention and then you pay the penalty as it diminishes your productivity. Keep Emails Relevant

Keep your emails more efficient and effective by staying on topic, including all the necessary information in a single email, and avoid the need for follow-up emails. Be clear and concise.

Clean up your inbox by unsubscribing to unnecessary emails. You may need to set aside some time to sort through and unsubscribe to these time wasters, but it will save you a lot headache in the long run.

Schedule Time To Check Your Inbox

Having your inbox constantly open on your computer screen can be very harmful to your productivity. Multiple studies have suggested that the most productive and energetic time of a workday is in the morning. When you start off your day with emails, you start out working on the demands of others instead of your own projections. Schedule two or three times of day when you can spend time responding to emails. This way, you’ll still be responsive but also have uninterrupted time to get your work done. While you are working on other products, to guarantee no distraction try shutting down or log out of your email.

While going through your inbox, respond to the most essential communications first. For example, answer emails from your boss quickly, but other emails may not be as vital. An email is a form of communication that should not be used if there is a stress on an immediate response.
